It gives the company’s standing, on a scale of 1-100, in relation to all other companies that have been rated by the rating services. The Comdex ranks the companies on a scale of 1 to 100, in relation to other companies that have been rated by the rating agencies. Comdex The Comdex is a composite index based on the ratings received by a company from the ratings services. It is the average percentile ranking for all of the ratings received by a company. As such, it is not another rating, but rather an objective scale that can be used to easily compare the ratings of different companies. Importance of Ratings A good credit rating can be determined through a variety of factors. Your proven credit history, your current debt to income ratio, and your amount of bad debt (unsecured credit card debt, auto loans, etc.) can be compared to your amount of good debt (home loans). People with a good credit rating generally qualify for prime rates in loans, essentially the standard rate. The Comdex ranking is an average percentile of a company's ratings, making it easier to compare companies. Comdex looks at companies rated by independent rating agencies, then ranks more than 200 of those companies on a scale from 1 (lowest) to 100 (highest), based on their agency ratings. A company’s Comdex rating is also an important part of an insurance company’s financial strength. A company’s Comdex score is a ranking, from 1-100, that compiles ratings from AM Best, Moody’s, Fitch, and Standard & Poor’s. The closer a company’s Comdex score is to 100, the more highly that company has been ranked by two or more of

A company with a consensus of four ratings at the 80th percentile will have the same Comdex as a company with four wildly different assessments at the 95th, 85th, 75th and 65th percentiles. The Comdex is an average of the percentiles for each rating agency, but the rating agencies do not rate the same companies.

The Comdex rating is on a number scale of 1 to 100 with a higher number being the better ranking. If an insurance company’s Comdex ranking is 80, this means it scores higher than 80% of all other insurance companies with multiple ratings. The Comdex can provide the context and level of detail needed to make an informed decision. What Is Factored into the COMDEX Number. In order to get a number, the Comdex first takes a complete count of all companies who have at least two of the four rankings necessary to earn a Comdex score. COMDEX is a compilation of 4 ratings services: COMDEX looks at all of the ratings and assigns a score from 1 to 100, with 100 being the safest and best score. But they are not so precise as to tell us that a company with slightly lower ratings is weaker than one with slightly higher ratings. We can make broad generalizations like a Comdex of 95 is way better than a 65. The Comdex ranks the companies on a scale of 1 to 100, in relation to other companies that have been rated by the rating agencies. Simply speaking, the higher the number, the stronger a company’s overall financial outlook. In order to be given a Comdex ranking, an insurance company must be rated by at least 2 of the major ratings companies.
