Water Supply Forecast Exceedance Probability Charting Tool The Department of Water Resources has finished the February 1, 2020 Water Supply Index (WSI) and Bulletin 120 (B120) forecasts. These forecasts include observed conditions through the end of January. The Surface Water Supply Index (SWSI) is a predictive indicator of total surface water availability within a watershed for the spring and summer water use seasons. The index is calculated by combining pre-runoff reservoir storage (carryover) with forecasts of spring and summer streamflow which are based on current snowpack and other hydrologic variables. The S&P Global Water Index provides liquid and tradable exposure to 50 companies from around the world that are involved in water related businesses. To create diversified exposure across the global water market, the 50 constituents are distributed equally between two distinct clusters of water related businesses: Water Utilities & Infrastructure and Water Equipment & Materials. While irrigation for agriculture dominates blue water withdrawals (>70%), irrigation water accounts for only 16% of global consumptive water use for crop growth and the remaining 84% of the agricultural water supply comes from green water (Falkenmark 2013).

Water releases from reservoir storage are actively being managed for water supply, fish habitat and flood management objectives for both the Cedar and South Fork Tolt Rivers. Water consumption for the previous seven days averaged approximately 106 million gallons per day (mgd).

For the water year, the Northern Sierra 8-Station Index has already reached its average, standing at 104 percent of an average water year (50.0 inches) while the San Joaquin 5-Station (88 percent) and Tulare Basin 6-Station (81 percent) indices are currently below their water year averages (40.8 inches and 29.3 inches, respectively).
